Meet Maple: COAR’s Office Dog!

Meet Maple, COAR’s resident Barkitect! COAR President Jeff Katz and his wife Laurie first met Maple when volunteering at Family Dog Rescue in Sonoma, California. Maple had been sent to the rescue by local veterinarian’s office Standiford Vet Center and California Dog + Cat Hospital, and she needed a loving family to care for her.

As Jeff and Laurie had recently rescued a husky named Archie and had a golden retriever of their own (hi, Olive!), Jeff turned to the COAR team to see if anyone could provide a loving home for Miss Maple. COAR Job Captain Haley and her partner Nathan came to the rescue!

“Nathan and I were talking to Jeff and told him that we were ready to adopt a dog and hoping to find a golden retriever,” Haley said. “Less than a week later, Jeff called me about a ‘golden opportunity.’ The rescue he and Laurie volunteer with in Sonoma had received a 5-year-old golden retriever. She needed some medical treatment but would soon be ready to take to her new home and was ours if we wanted her.”

Because Haley and Nathan were living in San Diego, they needed some assistance getting Maple down from Sonoma County. Maple lived with Jeff and Laurie until Haley’s friends in the area were able to pick up Maple and deliver her safe and sound to her new home!

Maple has now lived with Haley for eight months and couldn’t be happier in her new home.

“I love taking her on outings to the park, beach, and restaurants,” says Haley. “Maple loves being out and about and wants to say hi to everyone! At home, she follows me around everywhere which is so sweet. She loves to play but has also turned into a huge cuddle bug. It has been so fun to see Maple get comfortable and show her personality.”

Now that Maple has been thriving in San Diego, she has also become a regular in the COAR San Diego office. Maple’s smiles and handshakes continuously bring her “coworkers” lots of joy. It has been so exciting for the COAR team to join in on Maple’s journey!
